Seconded! I was pleasantly surprised.
One thought on closed top - this might increase the risk of fogging/condensation…

I am planning on giving a contact at QE 200 in the next couple of days. I live in Coventry if you wanted to collect on route to get sooner!
Smokey, is there likely to be a design change to accommodate top protection?
I am planning to go in tomorrow and start cutting.
Should I delay?
Nope there won’t be a design change. If we do add top protection, it’ll be something that can be added to any existing face shield with this design.
Excellent, thanks, I’ll get on it tomorrow
How would one go about getting invited too the Slack group ?
I am making strong potential headway in approval in the greater Manchester area and wanted too see what has been discussed regarding NHS approval so far for Nottingham etc.
NHS approval? Our local clinics and hospitals asked for shields of a specific design (PRUSA RC3) we showed them the laser cut design. They said “okay we’ll take those”.
If my contacts ask me to change something, we’ll change it. In the meantime I’m churning out shields for them.
You’re in danger of fiddling whilst Rome burns. Good luck with your approval.
Hello smokey, so am I!! Anyone who wants them are getting them but I’ve worked a system in to allow the sign of a disclaimer as these masks while a great design are not “approved” or tested to be effective.
I can only go as fast as a one man band at the moment. But I want to go faster. But at the same time everything needs to be done to create a system that works efficiently and produces these on mass in the safest way possible.
I am aiming too find have a sign off that the headbands could potentially be disinfected and re-used and that the pvc visit probably too be single use and be replaced.
If I can secure all this im in discussions with potential industry partners to make these in a factory at a much faster rate. Just trying to find out any information which is here or anyone has to help in this!!!
If I can get a robust sign off for one place a small research paper could help prove its use and others can fast track it through in there areas.
Just trying to help. Whilst producing to my Macxcapacity I’ve managed to secure funding for over 6000 masks, produce contact points who may be able to generate this kind of a sign off etc. I’m working my ass off. So please bear with me if you think I’m trying to somthing in place to make it easier for everyone and potentially of it all works out push production up to the 10’s of thousands a day while still producing what I can for whoverer needs it.
Was just trying to ask for a little help.
Good luck with it. Sorry I can’t help with this.
Would be greatful for the dtd file, using 2d techsoft v2 at our school. Aiming to fire up our 900x600 laser cutter tomorrow.
Good job everyone
Managed to import from within techsoft full 900-600 version file. Thanks
Hi everyone, I want to start producing these masks and give them away to local carehomes etc. I have downloaded the following file Face Shields Optimised for laser cutters of around 500mm x 300mm
[500x300] Covid 19 Facemask - V0.5.dxf (499.7 KB)
I try to open the file in corel it says error reading the file, can anyone help please.?
I just tried it and it gave file corrupt error.
Where did you get the file from?
If you go here Covid 19 laser cut face shield near the top of the page where it says shows a picture of Kitronik Kevin in a prototype: Then underneath it says Dropbox COVID19 FILES the file that I downloaded are underneath that it says Face Shields Optimised for laser cutters of around 500mm x 300mm, and Face Shields Optimised for A2 cutters around 600mm x 400mm
Just realised you said open it in corel… below is for 2d design, may work for corel as well?
(just checked and Corel does support dxf)
You need to import it not try and open it!
File> import
On the dxf import setup:
Interpret units and position is checked, make sure it is set to mm
Load as a group is ticked
Exact match is checked
Here is a 2d design copy of it:
Smokey/ anyone do you know much about the lasercut software?
If I try to cram in as many parts to a sheet as possible, when lasercut opens the dxf it is missing loads of objects, fairly randomly?
My objects are within the sheet so that is not the problem.
I have opened the dxf files on the autodesk viewer and everything is there.
Am I doing something really, really stuupid or is it just some kind of limitation on the complexities of dxf files?
Phillw, thanks but corel wont open that and when I do it says corel needs to close. I downloaded some files from this here before but the headbands look narrow, especially the one that holds the clear mask.
Headband is 30mm wide.
I can save the file as non scalable vector files if thats any use to you?
Any of these?
Thanks, the one I have is only 16mm wide for the head band, DFX will be fine, thanks again.
